Leg 1: NYC. My girlfriend Whitney and I went to Brooklyn via Amtrak train to visit her old college roomie Sarah and her boyfriend Thomas. Thank you to Sarah and Thomas for not only supplying a brand spanking new air bed to crash on, but for acting as tour guides for the few days we were in town.
The train is the way to go when traveling up the east coast because it helps you avoid the worst strip of highway in the whole world, the 90 miles from Richmond, VA to Washington, D.C. on Interstate 95. Aside from missing out on that traffic we got to sleep and relax. No TSA, no arriving insanely early to board, no bag size restrictions, and no turbulence (a huge plus for Whitney).
Luckily this year has seen copious amounts of warm weather but also a fair bit of precipitation. All these gloomy days have thrown a wrench into my photography plans and forced me out of my comfort zone. I was able to tote my camera with us on our long walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and around Manhattan thanks to the weather sealing on my camera body and lens. (biggup Pentax!) It’s the cloudy days that help bring out different subjects and force you to look in different places.
It has taken me a while to recover from all the walking we did in the city. I am using it as my excuse for not getting through all the photos in a timely manner. Until next time friends, send it deep.
